Surfing Bucket Lists

Surfing and specific surfing goals show up on a huge proportion of bucket lists. The goals range from really basic "try to ride a surfboard" to "surf Jaws" - a mega wave off the coast of Maui. Surfing has been romanticized in movies from Elvis' Blue Hawaii to The Endless Summer and tons of what would be referred to by some as "chick flicks" with surfers at the center of the story. When it comes to fulfilling the dream of surfing, most people are surprised when they are actually able to stand on the surf board during their first surfing lesson. That is the little detail that gets people hooked, after their first day. After that, there are never ending improvements and accomplishments that can be achieved, making it one of the most perpetually fulfilling items to have on your bucket list. Our kids loved taking lessons at La Jolla Shores, La Jolla, California and at the most spectacular Playa Hermosa, Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. What is terrific about both of these beaches is that there is an unlimited amount of time to get up and then still more time to stay up. And a soft sandy bottom does not hurt.
